Miracle Creek

★★★★☆

4/5 Stars

My Review –

In Angie Kim's novel Miracle Creek, the reader is thrust into a typical web of a family drama surviving the immigrant experience, set against the backdrop of a small Virginian town. The Yoo family, recent immigrants from South Korea, run a hyperbaric oxygen therapy business that becomes the epicenter of a tragic explosion, setting off a chain of events that unravel deeply buried secrets.

Angie Kim’s former career as a lawyer is apparent in the court room procedurals, written like your flashy fast pace tv dramas like Law and Order, or How To Get Away With Murder. Her masterful storytelling, peels back the layers of her characters' lives, revealing hidden motivations and untold truths that challenge our perceptions and keep us hooked until the very last page.

Miracle Creek is an exploration of the sacrifices, misunderstandings, and concealed histories that define both familial bonds and the immigrant journey. While the whodunit will keep you on the edge of your seat, the true reward lies in its existential exploration of the choices people make—or fail to make—and the profound, often devastating impact those decisions have on others' lives.
